Trains and empowers formerly incarcerated people and family members to address inhumane prison conditions and win humane temperature standards. Directed by Dr. Amite Dominick, TPCA leads the 85 to Stay Alive campaign — a national effort to cap indoor temperatures in prisons at 85°F through legislation, litigation, and public education.
Works for a safe, dignified, and fair system for justice-impacted women and gender-expansive New Yorkers, led by directly impacted people. Directed by Rev. Sharon White-Harrigan.
Led by Bharat Venkat, the Heat Lab studies how biological, social, infrastructural, financial, and legal factors converge to make incarcerated people uniquely vulnerable to heat.
Colorado Environmental Justice and Incarceration Project
Confronts the harms and injustices at the intersection of incarceration and environmental health in Colorado — with those directly impacted leading at the center of the work.
A participatory research initiative led by Ufuoma Ovienmhada and the Campaign to Fight Toxic Prisons. The project maps environmental hazards — heat, air pollution, flooding, wildfires, and more — that prisons, jails, and detention centers face nationally.
